Frustration.

So it has been two months and my sponsor has messed up the paperwork and had to restart the whole residency process, meaning I will have at least a month until it gets done, probably more.

My wife was supposed to come over for a short visit, but in a few weeks she will not be able to travel any more. I am in complete disbelief that there is no such thing as a tourist visa, and it is virtually impossible for her to come over for a visit.

Unfortunately our country of origin is not on that list of countries which can obtain a visa upon arrival, and the only option is to book a hotel and let them arrange a visa, but that would be ridiculous although I have come to a point to even consider that. :(

I guess I just needed to vent, as obviously there is no solution to our predicament.

Anyone wants to sponsor a clinical psychologist with a masters degree for free therapy sessions? :)

Thanks for listening. :-/

Hey buddy

totally understand what you mean and quite frankly not much you can do - what you mentioned in your post is very common here, so whatever happens, you know you're never alone in that situation, though not sure what sort of consolation is that!.. suggest you hit the gym, find a boxing bag and go at it till it snaps LOL ! Believe me, found it a great solution in this country :)

Can I suggest that maybe your wife should get in touch with the Kuwaiti embassy in your country, or consulate somewhere close, and maybe she should be able to apply for a visit visa through that embassy, if they are in the mood to help her at all.

As for tourist visa.. LOL.. THIS IS KUWAIT my friend..TOURISTS.. WHAT TOURISTS??? Take a look at the following article and you can arrive at your own conclusion

Most Unfriendly Countries and Most Friendly Countries Listed

[large]A report from the World Economic Forum listed the most friendly and the most unfriendly countries in the world for tourists.
The organization, in its “Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2013” report, ranked 140 countries based on residents’ “attitude of the population toward tourists,” according to CNN.

The country that was described as the most unfriendly in the report was Bolivia, scoring a 4.1 out of seven, with a zero score being the worst and seven being the best. Neighboring Venezuela, Russia, and Kuwait were next on the list.
The most friendly country is Iceland, which got a 6.8 on the index. New Zealand, Morocco, and Macedonia were next.

The report states that “encouraging the development of the Travel & Tourism (T&T) sector is all the more important today given its important role in job creation, at a time when many countries are suffering from high unemployment,” meaning that having a more friendly population might bring in more tourism money.[/large]

Unfriendliest
1. Bolivia 4.1
2. Venezuela 4.5
3. Russian Federation 5.0
4. Kuwait 5.1
5. Latvia 5.2
6. Iran 5.2
7. Pakistan 5.3
8. Slovak Republic 5.5
9. Bulgaria 5.5
10. Mongolia 5.5 (tied with China, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia)

Thanks SportsMan. :) Actually I thought she could at least check with the embassy, although the closest one is like an hour of flight away. It doesn't hurt to at least give a call and see what happens.

As for the tourists, I can actually appreciate the "Tourists? We don't need no stinkin' tourists!" attitude especially if they can afford one (and they can). Was in Dubai a few days ago and the only thing that bothered me were the tourists. I guess I spent too much time in Kuwait. :)

Well, the frustration just became official:

Personally, for me this is a disaster. One of the main reasons for coming over here is to finally spend time with my wife as we have been living apart for 8 years (due to having jobs in different places), and now it turns out I haven't solved a thing. Actually, now we are even worse off.

I now officially believe in karma, and I must have been truly a terrible person in the past lives.

legacy

mon ami, ur fairly new here, suffice to say do not believe everything you read in print. there have been several proposals to burden the lives of expats, from limiting their stay to increasing the cost of their drivers licence renewal, none of em make to fruition.

:)

Ribosom

Thanks legacy for trying to comfort me. :) I know better than to believe the media, but I have been given an official response that things are put on hold right now, so I went checking.

I am sure things will change again as they always did, it is just that I don't need all the extra stress if I can avoid it.

Going by those news reports, it seems irrespective of the job, they're going to hold off invitations for new visas from 1st April.. Is there an official source for this? I'm trying to confirm this with my to-be-employer, the last thing I'd want is to be wandering jobless

SportsMan

"Although new work visas would not be issued from April 1, there is still no clarity on whether existing visas would be renewed upon expiry. As a result of the restriction, companies would be forced to hire only Kuwaiti nationals. Latest statistics show that there are fewer than 1 million Kuwaitis of working age. The government has also established an inspection team to ensure that employers comply with the new regulations."

Hey people.. relax and chill out will ya..

Anyone here really and honestly thinks non expats will be cooking their own burgers, driving their own taxis, really WORK as nurses (or any other job) from 7am till 7pm with only 1 day for the weekend, man all the offices, run power stations-internet companies-computer repair-fix smashed car-service overused jet skis), and clean their houses and pick their own garbage?

If you do, I'm really impressed!

legacy

the transactions put on hold as of first april will be the transfer of visit visa's to work ones. but if ur here on a commercial visa, as in ur company sent u a document to bring u into kuwait, u need not worry.

Ribosom

Seems I do as the people working on it are completely clueless and unprofessional, and the only thing for me to do is to slowly sink into despair - which I am going to start doing as of now.

new2q8

Ok, I just inquired about this with the HR, and it seems the 'holding off' rule only applies to commercial visit visas to be converted to work visas, as legacy had pointed out.. So anyone being invited on a commercial visit visa (I think am not), should they fret?

Hey mate..sorry to hear you're so down at the moment. It seems that that is the real problem in this case i.e. the people working on it. Not sure what to suggest in this case. But believe me, this happens in any country you could move to! Have to persevere and work though it.. going through all that and once you're settled, Kuwait is actually not such a bad place to be.

Ribosom

Hey SportsMan - I never implied it is a bad place to be, that's what makes it even worse. :)
We'll see what happens, sometimes I just have that feeling that I have exclusive subscription to bad luck and can't cancel it.

true_blue

Hi Ribosom,
I hope by this time, your problem have been solved and now you are in good mood again.
Good Luck :)

Ribosom

Oh it isn't, and no one knows when it will be. It is a waiting game now...

true_blue

I know how this feels like, there is not much you can do but waiting, however, you should be careful not to wait while your sponsor is sitting idle doing nothing. the least you need to do is to keep following up with your sponsor and/or your administration dpt. to make sure that they are whoring on your case till it is solved.

I can understand how taught it is being not able to bring your wife onboard. I am more or less in the same situation, but voluntarily. Hope you manage to get your family soon

Ribosom

Thanks for the encouraging words; yea,I am doing exactly as you advise. Actually I have been doing that from day one. :)
I'm sure that soon enough I'll be having a coffee and laughing at all this.

true_blue

Wish you all the best,
we will all have the coffee together then :)
