Ok so im an EU citizen, that between july and september is planning to do 8 weeks paid work in malta, in a hotel ( what hotel, i cannot say 100% yet). I was just wondering if i had to do anything before/when i arrive? Anything to do with permits or the like? Or do i not have to because of the shortness of my stay, if you need anymore information just ask and i can let you know, thanks for any help

Hi Kurt,

welcome to the forum.

To work in Malta you normally have to be a resident but as the whole application process by appointment seems to be taking much longer than the 8 weeks you're talking about I'm not sure about your situation.

Your future employer would register you as employed. You would need to get a NI number and a tax number too.

If you are handling food as your name suggests you will also need the appropriate hygene certificates.

Whatever you need will not have to do with the shortness of the stay but will depend on your future employer employing you without the documents would be my guess.

Cheers
Ricky

as an eu citizen no work permit is required - and you wouldnt be able to get an e-residency certificate/permit anyway due to the shortness of your stay... i agree with ricky here it will depend on your employer

As Ricky says, the awkward bit is that only residents of Malta can work in Malta (with a few minor exceptions). It maybe that you apply for an appointment to get residency and you've then fulfilled your obligations as an EU citizen from the residency side.

Ok guys thanks :) once i get a definite answer from the hotels that have got back to me its something i will be sure to ask them :) and i already have my food hygiene certificates :)
Thanks
Kurt
