Hi,

Husband and I decided a few years ago that we wanted to live abroad, we are currently in Egypt and although the weather is amazing, there is nothing to do, we are both culture vultures and once you have seen the Sphinx and Pyramids, what else is there? So the bags are packed and we leave on 15th April to fly to Malta, already booked into a hotel for a couple of weeks so that we can find somewhere to rent for 6 months, before taking our time to have a good look around for something a bit more permanent.

We are both retired, well before retirement age but I am not adverse to working from home to bring in a bit more income if that is what is needed (hopefully not though) and we are both looking forward to getting back to civilisation - see you in a couple of weeks.

Dorne & Charlie

Hi - are you EU citizens ?

Toon

interesting words "back to civilisation" LOL

Malta is very much a marmite island - love it or hate it no middle ground....its not everyones cuppa. but hey give it a go what you got to lose....if you dont like what you see or get bored with what there is we can all move on thats the beauty of retirement....

Hi, we are both British with Full British Passports so does that count ?? :D

georgeingozo

Yep, that makes things much easier, as you have a legal right to live in Malta as long as you satisfy the minimum income or capital plus healthcare requirements :-)

Toon

makes a massive difference to you both.....so good luck

Chardor

I Love Marmite .. as for the civilisation bit, when you get woken up at 4.30am by bad singing to go to pray - there comes a point where even the sound of church bells is a better option. :)

Toon

PM sent, check your inbox, good luck :-)

PS, you say you are 'culture vultures' and I'm interested in what you mean by that. If it's archaeology, there are some very fine sights on Malta & Gozo but you will see them all in a relatively brief time period. The National Museum of Archaeology is very much worth a visit and the Hypogeum of Paola, Malta, literally meaning "underground" in Greek, is a subterranean structure dating to the Saflieni phase (3000-2500 BC) and a fascinating place to visit. BUT, you must book in advance and at the moment it is more or less fully booked up to June.
Some years ago we did a tour with our own guide who was a Professor of Archaeology and learned so much, well worth the expense.
Malta & Gozo are steeped in history but a lot of presentations are more geared towards the tourist, more casual visitor rather than a serious learner.
E.g if you go to see The Mdina Experience, that audio/visual is less about Mdina itself and more about the island's history.
There are also some great exhibitions related to the Great Siege and WW2 and some great exploratory walks to be had.

For a small island it has more history and we will enjoy learning about it all - as well as sitting and watching the world go by.

I know who to give a nudge to for more information, you are all brilliant and thanks so much for everything....
