I am being made aware from sources that someone is messaging them and making various defamatory statements about me. The person who is doing that is doing it ‘anonymously’ but I am convinced that those messages are coming from someone who has been banned from this blog but has re-appeared several times under various pseudonyms.

This person lives in Australia and refers to me as ‘redneck’ which is why I know that though he has adopted several guises, it is always the same person.
He has in the past messaged me and at least one other person and made threats, that if traced, could be used to prosecute him as they are threats to harm etc.

Now, I know that I have a sense of humour that may appear to be strange to some and with the great range of nationalities on this blog, I often write may be misunderstood or ‘lost in translation’.

I am also aware that I can be very blunt’ sometimes when stating my opinions.

I only try to help people. I have done that all my life both personally, as a volunteer worker for several charities and as a professional. If I have upset anyone I apologise that I may have been perceived as the cause but I state what I believe to be true.

I also realise that one who pokes their head above the parapet is likely to get it shot off.
However, I make no apologies for being me.

I do my thing and you do your thing.
I am not in this world to live up to your expectations,
And you are not in this world to live up to mine.
You are you, and I am I,
and if by chance we find each other, it's beautiful.
If not, it can't be helped.

i must admit although not having had any messages of the like  - i have long suspected that this person is amongst us...

tearnet

I have noticed on this and other expat sites that when some people post a question they are hoping for a reply that is positive. If some one gives a reply or accurate advice that they don't want to hear because its not the answer they want, they can get aggressive.
I have had a similar problem on another website and in the end chose to stop participating (I'm not suggesting that stop posting) but its a fact that a lot of posters a looking for reasurance and not always the truth! We may after all be shattering someones dream.

My OH thinks that some of my replies are a bit blunt but I prefere to call it being realistic.
Keep on posting (the other moron will get fed up in the end, whoops, not that i'm saying you are a moron,oh dear I think I'll stop now!) :)

Terry

Thanks Toon & Tearnet and Tearnet, I would agree with your OH some of the time. :)
I know what I can be like but why 'dress things up'? The message risks getting lost if too much dressing is applied.
I also know that I have a low tolerance level for some who just do not want to heed realistic advice given by anybody, usually in a far better position to do so or far worse, pick it apart in a pedantic manner. Another thing that rattles my cage is when people who have never visited Malta, not even for a holiday, give advice or complain about the way things are done on Malta or Gozo. Thanks again, appreciated.

Toon

i think being realistic is the key - and i agree we may shatter peoples illusions but not with intent or malice - better that first than finding oneself in a not very nice situation in a country you no longer want to be in...CONSIDER ALL ADVICE AND COMMENTS AND THEN MAKE YOUR OWN MIND UP.

As a "life long friend of yours" (allegedly :D)I would have thought that you have no need to apologise to anyone for anything. As someone relatively 'new' to the forum, your post count, knowledge, research and expertise (both on and off topic) has been invaluable to lots of people (and may I also include the ususal suspects (GinG, toon, terry, ricky, scoob and loads of others)) in that assistance.

I fully understand your 'concerns' about malicious pm's and slander (I too have received some as I have told you in the past)......it's not nice but we both know that they are always tracked down, eventually, and they get a little bit of 'karma'.

As toon and terry have already said....if we paint this isle as a place of wine and honey and people make 'life changing' decisions based on this then we are doing them a great dis-service.

As for the trolls........we know who they are, they will be tracked, they will go away.

Keep up the good work mate.

Helping is about enabling people to help themselves, not doing things for them and to mislead is (deliberately or inadvertently) is, as you say, a disservice.

So thanks, my lifelong friend. :D

Toon

trolls they are among us.....

ECS

if this happens, please have the messages reported to the admins. This happened to me and I reported the messages. When the person reappeared with a new handle, they did it again, and now this person seems to have gone away.

the admin team of this site is VERY interested in keeping this kind of icky behaviour at bay, and although it might take a few tries, I hope we can discourage your attacker.

Although I do not participate in the Malta forum and haven't read the advice you're sharing, it is definitely my experience too that people can get angry when you tell them the truth about moving abroad. They can't just show up with a smile on their face and expect subsidized housing, a job, free healthcare, and 24 dancing girls to feed them peeled grapes.

Toon

darn it i knew i was missing something where are the dancing girls???

rainbow3

I agree with toon, tearnet and Mike (not to be confused with you Mick, lol:)) that you always give good advice and help people wherever you can, you also always speak up if you feel somone is being unfairly treated and I have seen you aplogise if things you have said are taken the wrong way, you are very honest in your replies but also very realistic which, as has been said, some people just dont want to hear, it seems to be very easy to upset people on internet forums, some people like to get offended as a hobby, so this person who seems to be slandering you is probably just another troll who gets their kicks out of becoming offended and then trying to attack others for no reason, they are usually the ones who dont bother to answer anyone constructively or offer any advice and help to people who need it, I know it must be upsetting to hear someone has been saying things about you in this way but you know they mean nothing to you and those of us with a few brain cells left between our ears can work out who the genuine people are, this forum is an invaluable place and as has been said there are people here who go the second mile to help others, I consider you to be one of them Mick so hopefully you wont let this stop you posting in your usual way.

I have recently just joined this forum - But I think you are one of the most valuable member on this forum.

The best aspects to your replies - You are not afraid to ‘’call a spade a spade’’ - Personally I think that is one of the best qualities any individual can ever possess.

I have not received such Emails/PMs yet - But If I ever receive one form this anonymous person claiming to be you - I will definitely tell him to shove it ......

Ps - Keep it up redmik!

GuestPoster566

Thanks Smeddie though there are others who give far more valuable advice.

Thanks and no, it won't stop me posting!!

GuestPoster566

OK, enough already!! :shy
I only posted this to make sure that people know that I am not a malicious person and that sometimes it is the receiver, not the transmitter that may be at 'fault'.
I have reported all malicious messages sent to me,personally, to the admin.
Also, I'm too old to change and I won't. :)

Hi Mick,

keep up the good work and stay the way you are!

As we will all stay the way we are , with all our different facets and experiences regarding Malta and the advice each of us can give.

Including personal comments and all the rest.

That is what has made our Malta Forum popular and one of the best despite the size of our little rock -)))

My wife still keeps trying to change me but I think I'm too old too-)))

Cheers
Ricky
