Hello and Ni Hao

Post new topic

New here! This seems like a wonderful community and resource.

I am an American planning to move to Shanghai around September with my boyfriend to teach English (we will both be 23 and hold college degrees). We want to travel SE Asia and also experience life as "locals" in China. I have done a lot of research but straightforward information is still hard to come by. So while I'm absolutely ecstatic about the upcoming adventure, I still have many questions and concerns.

I would love to hear anything any of you have to say about life in Shanghai generally, advice, tips, interesting tidbits, etc. I do have some specific questions regarding gaining employment(!), where to live, food quality, and a few others so if anyone is willing to share some knowledge please post here or send me a message.

Thank you and I'm glad to be here!

why dont you try Nigeria

_flapjack

I have heard lovely things about Nigeria, thanks for the suggestion. In fact, while Nigeria specifically never crossed my mind to teach in, I have had a very difficult time deciding where to go. I definitely want a submersing experience outside of the West but eventually I had to just pick a place! I decided on Asia, then narrowed it down to China, then Shanghai. Hopefully, though, this will only be the beginning of my explorations, I'm keeping an open mind as to where I may go next.

I am indeed in good health and I wish the same for you! Thanks for your response and contact information. Most of my questions are in regards to teaching, specifically. But I may get in touch with you for cultural tips soon. Thank you! :)

My American friend,
thanks also for your response. I really appreciated your interest in Culture. I have inbuilt African culture just ready for you to explore and exploit out of me if you wish and am also ready to share. I speak Hausa, and my native tribe called GOEMAI...in the Goemai Land called Shendam ...you'd need to really explore and see Hippos,Elephants, and numerous things about our history. Well my friend...till i hear from you.

Have you been to Toronto, Canada?
This may be a great stopover before moving to China!

Blessings in all you do.
