Shorts for men

Post new topic

Can a foreigner wear shorts above the knees if he is working outside on construction of a golf course? I will hopefully be moving to Saudi Arabia soon to build and grow-in a new golf course and I'm curious if I can wear western style shorts at work outside on the golf course? Thanks for any replies.

It is considered offensive in this culture.  I advise you not to do it.

i had some Irish co workers who were literally escorted out of a mall in Jeddah, just because they were wearing 0.0002 cm above the knee length shorts.  they didn't even let the guys get some coffee and doughnuts.

A mall, my friend, is not a Golf Court.

LOL! sorry about that, was thinking in general...

And a golf course is not a food court lol

I've worn shorts in Faisaliah mall with no problems. Even bumped into the Muttawa as they were making the rounds and they didn't care all that much. Although, what happens in one case doesn't necessarily mean everybody will be the same :)

Hey there, tt!  The OP is asking about 'short' shorts; ie. above the knee.  You wore these to Faisaliah?

tonguetwister

Heck yeah.... showing my thighs is what it's all about... :)

The shorts I wore were just above the knee but definitely not hot pants material. Although my wife has done so many a time, albeit covered by an abaya haha

Damn!  And I missed it! :D

tonguetwister

So did most people.... leg hair like bigfoot. People probably thought I was wearing some kind of furry trousers :)

Offensive?! I didn't notice that, I have walked with my friend in one of Riyadh's malls (Tamimi) and was wearing a short since he was just out of the gym and NO body even looked strangely at us.... So I think it's ok as long as you are not a gal :)
HOWEVER, possibly Hay'a staff will stop you if you pass by them ... I didn't run into this personally neither I want to .. :)

@sultanian  A question:  have you ever seen a national wearing shorts above the knees?

Just googled and found this interesting article, if anybody cares to read it:

Yess, I've seen a saudi guy walking in the street in short with no concerns on his face :P ... but to be frank, it was close to a gym and obviously not his casual clothing..

The article is true "theoretically" AND from Islamic point of view. However, realistically, not all obey strictly to this particular point although many of them are relatively religious and pray the five times daily.... Anyway, my comment above was that I didn't notice that it was "offensive" in their culture as supposed!

Salman Omrani

its offensive if its in public.. that excludes gyms though.
