Hi Everyone!

I'm Wendy and we moved from Canada to Ireland about 7 months ago to pursue my husbands dream job.   We've got two kids, a cat and a dog and we're settling in to our new home quite well.   Although we miss Kraft peanut butter and dill pickles & all things grape flavoured :)   We love living in a small country with such a gorgeous landscape.

Looking forward to meeting other expats and hearing about your adventures abroad!

Cheers!

Hello Wendy,

On behalf of the entire Expat-blog Team it's my extreme pleasure to welcome a fellow Canuck on board.

I hope that your experience here on the blog will be both enjoyable and informative. I'm sure you will make lots of new friends here.

How's the situation over there for finding Maple Syrup or Blueberries? Bet you're going to miss both of those just as much as the peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches for the kids.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Blueberries are easy to find but shockingly expensive!!   Proper Maple Syrup is hard to come by but can be found in a few special shops at crazy high prices.    We brought lots of Maple Syrup with us - we even brought some of those delicious maple candies for the kids classmates to try :)   Everyone that visits us from Canada is usually asked to bring peanut butter or grape jelly or maple syrup.

I will say that the milk here is fantastic.   I've never been a huge fan myself but I do like the Irish milk and my kids LOVE it.  At one point the two of them were drinking 12 litres a week between them!

Cheers,

Wendy

You wouldn't believe how astronomically high the price of maple syrup, blueberries and peanut butter are here in Brazil when you're lucky enough to be able to find them.

Just out of curiosity what's your hometown back in Canada. I was born and raised in Hamilton, ON and lived in Vancouver, BC for the last 28 years before I came here over eleven years ago now.

Again, welcome..... enjoy.

I was born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario but went to University in Thunder Bay.   We also lived in Orillia, Barrie and Toronto and our last place we lived (for about 5 years) was Hamilton!   Small world at times eh?

What brought you to Brazil?    For us we moved to Ireland for my husbands dream job and a little adventure :)

Cheers,
Wendy

I came to Brazil to complete a personal project to build a school for poor kids in the Amazon. I thought I'd stay for 3 to 6 months and then return to Canada. After 6 months here I was hooked and decided to stay. That was over eleven years ago and now I'm re-married to a wonderful young Brazilian woman and we have a beautiful little boy who will be six years old in July. I also have four (now adult) sons and daughters back in Canada.
