Hi there,

Looking at the posts and no replies, I won't be holding my breath for a reply.

Okay, here goes, God loves a trier.

I would like to know where would be the best place be to advertise my skills, and if so, would I pick up any work?

I am a general builder, doing anything connected with the building trade, from extensions to fitting kitchens, plumbing, tiling, plastering, bricklaying, roofing etc, the whole gambit, I even re-wire, but I understand that the French system is slightly different to ours.

I was in brief contact with an estate agent near Blaye and he told me that there was always a requirement for good, reliable British builders,so I guess it's just getting your name around.

Kind regards

Julien

Hi there Julien,

I know this may sound bad, my French is school French at best, but I am looking to look to work for English speaking ex pats to begin with, similar to the work I do here, working at people's houses.

Many thanks for your reply!

Hi Julien,

Well, by this time you may have decided not to come to Bordeaux... anyway, for future readers.

This website is very interesting:

dordogne.angloinfo.com/forum/forum.asp?FID=1001

Good community of people in Gironde and Dordogne that use the site to sell stuff, hire people, etc...

Happy hunting!

A couple of things. There is a newpaper for Britsh ex-pats sold nationally in French newsagents.  I can't remember the name of it right now. You can advertise in that. The other possibility is to give your details to estate agents, who can pass them on to British buyers needing work done, although if you did this it would need to be your official business.

However, the best way is to network within the English speaking community in your area. Talking to people and letting them know you're available is a start. Joining a French conversation class helps you meet ex-pats too. Good luck.
