Post new topic

Julien

Everything is in the subject :)

What I liked the most in the UK:
It's easy to find a job
Companies give you the chance to succeed (even without any diploma)
The customer service in shops and administrations
London is the multicultural capital of Europe
People are open minded

What I hated the most in the UK
It's difficult to find a good/cheap flat in London
You're working too much to be full-time efficient (I worked at least 50 hours per week)
Violence on stadiums

What I liked the most in Spain
The sun and the fiesta!
People are really friendly
Traditional dishes

What I hated the most in Spain
The siesta (I know it sounds unusual but I hate sleeping during the afternoon)
You can't go out before 2 o'clock in the morning

Your turn ;)

What I like the most in Angola:
Besides being my homeland, Angola means family for me. My tribe is very important.
If you have a project, Angola is the country where you should work.
The landscapes are magnificent!
Most beautiful sunrise and sunset!

What I hate the most in Angola:
The backward mentalities of some people that keep on saying that life as it is is not worth it and won't do a tiny little thing to change it!
The government (won't go into details), corruption (whoops, I did it...)
40 years of war still in our minds.
Lack of democracy.
Censorship...
You can't go anywhere (or close) without a car...

What I liked most in the UK :)
Being judged on facts/behaviour, not on appearance
Acceptance of individual difference
Their own difference as a people (there are so many things the Brits do a different way ;)) and as individuals
Administration. Organisations that warmly welcomed foreign students and helped us a lot
Pubs (both the place and people's ability to socialise)

What I disliked most in the UK :(
Immaturity of students
Poor nightlife
Bad health service
Trains, London underground
Too many franchised shops, pubs, restaurants

What I like most in Belgium
3 official languages, Brussels is highly cosmopolitan
Everything is on a human scale
Sensible society topics (euthanasia, gay marriage and adoption, involvement of immigrants in society, drugs...) debated on an objective basis and quite rid of taboos
Hundreds of kinds of beer, very different from one another
Rather good train network
Automated systems of payment (electronic purse, money transfer, e-commerce) are widely accepted

What I dislike most in Belgium
Constant bad weather
People are too organised, like to stay quietly at home and lack of excentricity
The cities look sad and lack of colours

What I like most in Italy
Things decided at the last minute, improvised meals and parties, phone calls at midnight in the week to ask you if you're doing something at 2am :)
Fantastic food (even though they talk about it too much)
Always something to do at weekends, every little town deserves to be visited
Paradise for strong-coffee lovers
The intensity of Mediterranean life, its sense of excess (e.g. having an argument, shouting loud and yet remaining friends)

What I dislike most in Italy
Omnipresence of catholic church & its consequences on society (I'm happy to be in Bologna)
Lack of interest for foreign cultures (even convincing friends to eat a kebab or a curry is hard)
Disdainful attitude toward non-EU immigrants (that goes far beyond political opinions about immigration)
Political debates, TV news are worse than a caricature
