Hello All,

I am an Indian citizen, married to an EU citizen and about to finish my medical Internship. After I graduate, we plan to move to Ireland to start my career as a doctor. I would like to know, as I am a family member of EU national, do I fall into the same category as an EU national would?

Can my wife and myself travel to Ireland and start looking for jobs there? Or does she need permission from Irish govt. to look for jobs?

Also, which kind of visa should I apply for? Tourist visa for 90 days and change to EU FAM4 in Ireland?

Maybe someone who recently moved to Ireland can guide me through this. I will be highly grateful to you all.

Thank you

From what I have heard, your wife can look for a job as she would not need any special permit for it being from EU.

You can either come via EU FAM4 or tourist visa, I think you would not need to pay the required fees for the application.

Good luck.

PS: I had travelled a bit due to studies, work around and based on that giving you above information. Please do check on the relevant sites to confirm fully.

Can I apply for EU FAM4 before going to Ireland? Because i read it take couple of months and I can't work until I have this.

Also, which city should we go to in the beginning? Where do you think it will be little easier to find a job? Dublin or other city?

Thanks

Hi,

Ireland has one of the most relaxed legislations about Non-EU spouses married to an EU person, basically after the last decision of the High Court (based on the EU directives) you must be treated as an EU citizen just showing your marriage certificate. The simplest way (to avoid the paperwork) is to get your EU passport before to enter in the state, because if you don't you have to enter as tourist, then you go to the Garda in person with your husband and you fill in the paperwork.

Anyway you are allowed to work in Ireland since the very day you enter the state because by all means in front of the law you are entitled to EU citizenship so you shall be treated as such.

Best of luck,
Pino

Hi I am originally from south Africa but have been living in Dubai for 5 years. Myself and my children have south African passports but my husband has a british passport. Myself and my children want to move to Ireland, my husband will remain in DUBAI AND VISIT TWICE A month. As he is an EU holder he has no problems living (briefly) in Ireland, but am I able to live in Ireland on a south African passport which is non eu?
I would also want to work once in Ireland. DOES ANYONE HAVE FIRST HAND INFORMATION TO ASSIST??
