Hi Bobby and welcome to the forum.

This is a little unusual in that you have secured employment but not accommodation.........were these details not discussed during the interview?  Did they not ask you for your address in Malta at the time or what plans you had?

I'm sure you will be helped by many on here, however, the first thing to do is select a place in Malta where you want to live and then what most people advise here is to book yourself into a small hotel for a few days and actively look for "whatever" type of accommodation best suits your needs......those who have done this have managed to get their living arrangements sorted within a few days.

Good luck

Mike

Hi Mike !!
Arriva find accommodation for the first two weeks , But I thought That I would bypass this and find my own straight away !!and get settled down !!thanks for your reply Roger

Hi Roger

If I were you I would take arriva up on their offer of accom for the first two weeks.  It would be an ideal opportunity to visit different places and talk to different people about where  the best possible area is for your needs.  Further you will not be rushing yourself finding your appartment.  Have a look at the 'Accommodation' heading at the top of the forum main page - it links to lots of great info that other people have asked for. Also use this link

and you wont go far wrong.  May I also suggest that you make your way to one of Ricky's meetings (held every Wednesday) in Sliema (see the meeting up sticky) and there you will get first hand info (and a few drinks)

Good luck

Hi Roger,

welcome to the forum and feel free to come to our beach meetings in Sliema if you are anywhere nearby.

I would also recommend you take up the Arriva accomodation offer and use the time to look for your own place. You can easily spend most of your Arriva salary on a flat in the Sliema area.

I wish you a good start with Arriva. I personaly have a bone to pick with them! I can't recommend anyone using one of their buses if they have a schedule to stick too. I flew to Germany on the 5 th June and was planning to take the X2 bus to the airport from Balluta Bay (started waiting at 9.50 am). But after waiting until 11.20 and 3 buses that should have come I had to stop a taxi on the street to not miss my flight. That was the last time I tried taking their service to the airport. Never again.

But on the way back today there was a X2 bus waiting at the airport and it left with no waiting time.

On the German side the train going to the airport in Frankfurt had to slow down because it was overtaken by a faster ICE train which caused 3 mins delay (travel time 1 hour). They apologized twice for the delay ! Now that is service and a nice gesture and not the shoulder shrugging by Arriva guys when you complain about 90 mins delay on a travel time of 60 mins.

I know it is not your responsibility but maybe people like yourself can change the crappy atttitude on the Maltese side of Arriva.

Cheers
Ricky
