Ohh. Visa Run, I have been doing it for the last 11 months. Very easy if you can get to Alain town and then drive to Meizd boarder crossing approx. 25 km from Alain down town. When you get to the customs head to the office at your right give your passport and AED 35 have your passport stamped and then cross the boarder to Oman. The Omani customs is head approx. 3 km. When you get to the office tell the officer that you need a visa for UAE visa change. He will give you a form to fill and also prepare to pay AED 200 for visa fees, this will take around 3-5 minutes and it's done. Then head back to UAE and then rest is very much normal. The whole journey will take around 45 - 60 minutes, of course if you have a car handy.

is this to renew a Visit Visa, and for how many days they give you the visa

Was it really necessary to enter into Oman (AED 200) - could you not have just made a  u-turn back into UAE, since UAE exit stamp was already done?  I am just curious about this, maybe useful to others.

Yes you need Oman entry and exit stamps as some times the UAE officers asked about them. To get these stamps you need to pay the AED 200.

I once thought of doing the u - turn but it's very risky. Just do the the right thing and remember you are at the boarder and smaller mistakes are deadly.

The visa duration is 30 days plus 10 days grace period you need to decide whether to leave or renew the visa. This applies only for western passport holders plus Australia and New Zealand 'check for further info'.
