G&M article: Quito is a great place for the arts in South America

Browsing through the papers back home, I came across this article:

Quito is South America's hottest must-see city

In my few months here, I can't say I'm surprised at the review. I was pleasently surprised when I got here to find so many things going on in town. And many cultural events are free.

Interesting article, though it sounded as much political as cultural -- or has Ecuador reached that point where culture and politics are intertwined?

I am looking forward to Quito, though, because one thing I dislike where I am is that there is nothing that could be described as culture here -- no art museums, few art galleries, no classical music on the radio (no jazz, either -- pretty much nothing but pop), etc -- it's pretty barren here.
