Relocating to Belize

Good morning!  I'm a bit confused.  Did you hear Cayo district or The Cayes?  It's an important distinction!  Are you planning to retire here, or to come to work /live?  What are your interests?  Are you hoping to buy property and build?  Rent?  Buy an existing house or condo?  Full time or part time?  Do you want to live on or near water?  Have you considered the dry and rainy seasons or hurricanes?  Have you been to Belize on vacation?  I always try to recommend visiting the various parts of Belize...  They're very different.... Before making bid decisions.   That's what I did.  I rent a house on Corozal  Bay in northern Belize and I'm very happy with that decision.  There are expats located all over Belize though who made other decisions and who are very happy.   Good luck and keep asking those questions!  Cathie

Hi. Great to 'hear' that you are working on relocating to Belize. My wife and I made the move just over a year ago after visiting for around 15 years and knew exactly where we wanted our new home to be.

So, if you haven't been to Belize yet, or travelled around it and spent time in various areas, I would come here first and spend around six months here. Get a good feel for the different places. And, if you like a place enough, then make the move.

Thank you both for your feedback on my question.  I am a single woman, are there any problems I should look out for, or, is it safe for single women in Belize.  I hope to be able to make lots of friends, so, joining clubs etc would be good if they are available.  I know I will have more questions to ask as I go along.  Thanks again.

Single guy here, so I say move to Corozal...haha.

But being poor I have to look for the best rates. Life styles for the rich and famous, they can afford the beautiful places. But Corozal is a good jumping off place to really find what you are looking for.

Rent a place for a month, meet the expats, everybody will be willing to help you out. If you are interested in Corozal, I can give you some in depth info and who to contact locally.

Hi JohnHenry thank you for your helpful advice, I agree, it is best to come with the idea of trying Belize first before making the decision to stay long-term.  I hope it is easy to get rental accommodation as I don't plan to buy.  Thanks again....

Mmmm at least there are single guys there hahaha... I think as much help and advice that is on offer is going to prove extremely useful. I think I am looking for something that isn't going to bust the bank, so living simple, meeting people and living a less stressed life is paramount.  Will take you up on your offer once I decide where to aim for... thanks 4evrHawk

we will be looking for a rental in corozal.  We will be in the area in a couple weeks to look around. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find available options?
We are open to either small house or condo, would like to be on the water, or nearby.  Two bedroom

Any contacts would be so appreciated.  I'm not having much luck looking online for help.

The Hotel Maya has a 2 bedroom available right now. But she will want 1st last and a deposit.

But you can rent short term while you look for what you want.

...by the way the Maya is right across the street from the Ocean. You can find the Maya on the internet, the lady that's runs the hotel is Rosie.
