Hi.  I'll be moving to Petaling Jaya area in about 4 weeks and will need to buy furniture, like LR, BR, DR sets.  Any hints on where to find reasonably priced furniture (not IKEA) would be appreciated.

Jackcoll

we have few good  furniture shops and with good price, not expensive .

I'll answer my own question.

There is a big mall called VIVEK HOME near an LRT stop and maybe 10 mins taxi ride from Bukit Bintang.  That place is okay.

Some people recommended Harvey Norman to me but I didn't find it that good.

Courts in KL is nothing like Courts in SG, very, very low end.

I found a small row of furniture shops along a highway in Petaling Jaya near the Sungei Free Trade Zone; there was some okay stuff there and prices negotiable.

There is a shop called Teakia in Petaling Jaya that has teak furntiture, hand made in Indonesia (so of varying quality).  The wood may not be dried out too before staining so it can crack later and then you need to repair it, so have to be careful what you buy.

Have been desparately trying to find a new mahogany or teak dining table and chair set for 8 since one year in KL but without success. Have looked in Viva Home, IKEA, Emperor and furniture shops in Bangsar Shopping Mall but did not find what I was looking for. Had found one set in Janine and thought my troubles were over but when the time came for delivery, the set got sold off and I was not able to get it. Even tried to order from Singapore but the cost was exorbitant  (around RM 25,000).  Guidance/advice will be greatly appreciated.

I know of 4 different teak shops.  Two are just past the Subang airport; go past the airport and make a left at the first light (it's a T-junction so could only go left or straight); you will see the first furniture shop about 400m down the road on the right.  The second one is about 800m down the road on the right (across from runway and next to seafood restaurant - I can recommend the seafood restaurant, good Singapore style chili crab).

There is a third shop, called Teakia, in Shah Alam.  You can google that one.

The fourth shop I saw is sort of near mt. kiara/bangsar village and its called Eastern Heritage.  You can google them too for address and directions.
