Does anyone live in Palm City?

Post new topic

Momx3children

Hi my husband and I were thinking about moving to Palm City Compound.  Im told there are pros and cons to living on a compound.  We have three small children and I would like to hear from someone who is living there now and get your perspective.
Thank you

I don't live there but did view with moving there in mind. Soon changed my mind though, for me it is way too cramped.
Fine for a vacation village but to live there permanantly would drive me mad.
For me, Regatta (if you can put up with the security) or the Oea camp are a better bet.

Thank you.  What kind of services are offered at Regatta..for example..are the any resturants, public swimming, hair salons ect.  Is it easy to get at least a four bedroom place if not bigger there?  Any help or info would be welcomed.
Thank you

Unless you pay silly money (and I mean SILLY), you'll be lucky to find anywhere larger than 300 sq.m. on any of the managed camps/estates like Regatta.

I've been to Regatta, and to Palm City. I think Palm City is a lot nicer. It's a little cramped, but there is a nice beach, big pool, and the market is great. It feels very clean there. While Regatta was big, it looks old and more worn down. It did have parks, and more people though.

There are some bungalows available I believe and are around 7k euro/ month.

Having been here for a few months now, I find Palm City to be excellent choice for my family. Friendly people and staff, excellent pool and beach. Great for cycling around. Although the apartment is much much smaller than the Villa we used to live in, this is not a problem as the boys tend to spend lots of time outside, which is big, safe and secure. Plus they have other kids to play with.

Maintenance issues are not a problem, just a call and someone is round in a few minutes. Actually I sent an email about the water boiler and less than 10 mins later someone was knocking on the door to fix it.

Hi, I actually live in Palm City. I have been in Tripoli for 4 yrs now and moved just recently from a monstrous Villa 700sqm with swimming pool and huge garden to a very nice 3 bed ground floor apt in Palm City. We are a family with 2 small boys.

Pros and Cons of  Palm City for me.

Pros:
Fully managed, no maintenance worries
Safe and Secure,
The whole area is a play area for the kids, riding bikes, rollerblading etc.
The apartment is fully furnished with all mod cons. Just move in with a suitcase.
No power or water cuts, water is clean.
Central air con system hot and cold.
Nice supermarket with hygienic butchers
Sports centre incl indoor pool + tennis courts and football pitch.
Will be a nice restaurant and outdoor pool
Beach – even though a little small,
Fishing off the rocks – Boys love it.
Under parking area is great as a play ground, especially when it is 40 degrees outside or raining.
Great for the kids as lots of other kids around to play with.
2 telephone lines and cable internet – soon to be working.

Cons:
Houses / units are tightly packed together.
A lot depends on where your unit is in the complex. With varying size and style of gardens, as well as your general outlook.
Little privacy outside or on the balcony.
Apartment too small for playroom or office.
Kitchen is small and no where to put kitchen table even though it has a small breakfast bar.
Garden is not big enough to kick a football with the kids.
No private pool – Superior villas have one though.
Wimax is very slow and intermittent, at least mine is.

For us this is a nice place to live. The villa we were in although huge and private was like living in a walled prison. This is great for the boys who have other kids to play with and interact with other people. Hopefully it will be a very sociable place and a chance to meet new people. I like to be able to walk to the local store!

It is not fully complete yet. Restaurant coffee shop and sports centre are not open. I believe that all the units except a few in the square are now reserved.

I gather that other expats are not allowed to visit the local grocery.   Doess it stock other items not normally found at Mahari or the Souk Thani?

The grocery store is open to the public

We are possibly going to Libya soon, our soon is an early teen. Are there other families in Palm City that have teens? And also how do I found out about other fairly safe areas for dependents? I have tried internet searches on Regatta Village and Oea Camp but cannot find much if anything.  Any help would be great.:)

When some lose some, it's all just a game.

I could not find any price indication for Palm City; I am looking for an apartment of 2/3 rooms. Could any one also indicate as how much I should expect paying for a similar apartment in Regatta?

Much appreciated.

saeed.qadri, did you find the answer to your question? i am also very much interested. let me know please.

thank you

Well, I send a question to their homepage, asking for the prices. I remember the anwer about a big house for about 11.000 to a small appartement for about 6.000. Whether LD, $ or Euro, anyhow to much for our company. :) Got a beautiful new house with pool for 1/3 close to work and school.
