Excess baggage fee vs. using a shipping company

Greetings, readers.  I'm not exactly sure if I have excess weight for my baggage- I hope to weigh my suitcases soon- but I think it will be the case.

Would you recommend that I ship some things or pay the excess baggage fee with my airline? The answer might depend on how much my baggage is overweight, I know, so let's say it's 5-10 kilos.  A colleague of mine used Rainbow Cargo last year because he said it was the cheapest he could find, so I'm referring to that kind of service and not a pricey one like FedEx.

I'm not sure which factors should sway my decision since I have not had to make this choice before, so please give any feedback or write about personal experiences with this topic.  I would, of course, only ship things via cargo that I didn't need to access for some time.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Airline excess baggage fees is most of the time, day light robbery. The stuff you are paying the excess for, might be cheaper than the excess-baggage rates.

But then again, it all depends on where you are shipping it to, as you have not mentioned any places.

Thanks for the reply.  I shipped some things before boarding the plane to avoid excess baggage fees.

Hi

My experience is paying excess baggage is no way justifiable.
It is always send cargo via home delivery or other method, still it is many times cheaper.  Airlines robe the passengers on excess baggage, so be careful.  If you fear to loose certain items do not send via cargo, take this things with you and send the rest via cargo.

Again, these days, perhaps it is cheaper to buy these things at home, less headache and no hassles..

All the best,

Musthafa
