Compounds 101

Post new topic

Hello again,

so i hope everyone is having a good summer, its getting really hot these days and I just got to move to a place with a pool.

so i call on your specialist knowledge, if you would be so kind, to assit me in answering these questions:

1. Which compounds are the Western style ones with public pools and restaurants?

2. Is it true some compounds don't let you bring saudi friends over?

3. are all these smaller compounds under the same rules as the big ones, ie the Hi'ya turn a blind eye to them

4. which websites did you find the best for finding a suitable compound

i'm a 30 year old british male looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom in a good compound. Any help would be much appreciated

I´ve heard the compounds are spilt up, and some are the americans compound and some is the german compound and so on. Do you know which is what?

Hi T-girl, nah, I only know about certain general areas.  To my knowledge, compounds are only split as to western and mixed.  Western would include only N. Americans, Europeans, Australians, etc.  Mixed would include some westerners and Arabs, South Asians, etc.  The western compounds are very free; the mixed, not so much.

Maybe somebody else knows of compounds where the residents are primarily German or American, etc., if there are any such compounds.

If you're coming as a teacher, esp. being a single woman, you'll be provided with gender-segregated university housing.

Information is not easy to come by in KSA.  We are all very fortunate to have this forum but we are still responsible for doing a lot of our own research :)

Coupounds for the americans are usually attached to their work.  My father switched jobs while here and the housing was part of the deal so we moved when he switched.  His new company owns several of the villas on the mixed compound we are now on.  Also while some mixed compounds are less free it depends on who is in charge of the compound.  For my current coumpound you need to be invited to come on, for kingdom compound they let people with passports come on at certain times, and for eskan....never go there.
