Could I save something ?

Post new topic

Hello Guys,

I have been following this forum for quite some time now. Thanks for all post.

I recently received job offer letter from Ministry of Manpower Oman, with regards to a non teaching IT staff in Oman Educational field.

The offer is:
1. Salary -801 OMR
2. Free housing/allowance
3. Free medical for family and free annual flight for family.

The question which is bugging me is?  Is it worth ? Would I be saving something?

Does free housing / allowance means free gas and electric? What does allowance means over their in Oman?

Inshallah I will be accompanied with my wife and 3 yrs old daughter.
I would appreciate all your help.
Thanks

Kind Regards

Congurts on getting a job offer. Could you please mention the city you going to live? As expenses depends on the city you. If they give you free housing means they will pay for everything and if they pay you allowance then you have to manage everything yourself. Food all depends on you if you don't go too often to eat outside then 150 OMR is enough to run your family.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

They have kept the location undercover, don't know why?

It might be in muscat or salalah. Not sure if any other city. But it will a place where they have colleges and university. I guess. Hope this helps.

Yes that's right as they will put you anywhere. They have number of technical colleges across Oman. But ministry jobs are always good as long as no third agent is involved. My suggestion to go for it. as offer is good and as I said saving all depends on you.

Shoyeb!
Two things here will benefit you alot.

1- Having a job in ministry automatically means that ur electrcity/gas/water and even landline phone bills, except the international (in few cases) will be taken care by the ministry.

2- OMR 801 is a good package and you can save 50% of this amount (provided u don't have a luxurious lifestyle). It also depends upon how big is ur family.

3- If you're deputed in Salalah or in Sohar, the saving potential will increase because of the cost of living, being so cheap out there unlike in Muscat.

End of the day, as I say to everyone, a man is the best judge of himself. Compare your earnings with the offered one and decide.
