Work in Brasil for English speakers

Post new topic

Finton

Hi all,

So I visited Brasil earlier this year on holiday and fell in love with the country. My question is, is there work for English speakers in Brasil? I have degree and have good work experience, problem is I work in local authority in England where I doubt it would be able to translate to a job in Brasil. My portuguese is very basic.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

James

Hi Finton,

What is your university degree in? That might be a big help in advising you. For example, if you have a degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) field then you will find work much more easily than someone who doesn't.

In any field of endeavour a good command of the Portuguese language is also essential, since English is not widely spoken here even in the business world.

Other than that about the only work readily available to English speaking foreigners is teaching English and that doesn't pay very much.

Thank you for your response.

I have a degree in Criminology. Unfortunatly I don't really know how much use that would be in Brasil. Teaching English would be good, but I hear the money is not very good. I don't need alot of money but I do want to live comfortably.

Regards.

James

Hi again Finton,

Right, a degree in Criminology wouldn't be of much use to you unless you were to marry a Brazilian and at some point in the future naturalize as a citizen. At least then you could be eligable to apply for public service jobs where you could use your education and experience. The corrections services in the various states, civilian positions in police forces, etc. Just a thought for the future.

If you're used to eating, I wouldn't recommend hanging all your hopes on teaching. LOL
