Thanks you are so wise. Maybe someday when you're not busy come over to my house for dinner if you don't mind my fiance's cooking.

khanh44

it's back because her co-workers are gossiping about our being born on year of horse marrying on the year of horse. http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs31/f/2008/207/e/8/Yahoo_Bang_Head_Emoticon_by_WhiteDragon1983.gif

What's worst she asked me to hold of having kids until 2015 because having a kid born on year of horse same as parents is bad too. I put my foot down quickly with that though.

Hey...
I don't have that problem, but someone told my gf that she will meet a foreigner from pig sign and she will marry at her 24 year or 26...
So I think I will also have to follow the tradition...
A good thing is that the future is bright... ^^ :)

after 6 hours of fighting it over the phone and going through all the superstitious days (January 16,17, and about 5 others of Lunar Calender is considered bad) we finally came to an agreement on February 23 being the wedding day. I've told my parents and they'll book their vacation for that date so she can't change her mind now.

Yes khan it's true, and very true to her. If you don't care when you get married, go along with her wishes and sweat a little :)

Such a small thing for you, but important for her!

AWWW, What a sweet thing for you to say! :D

I am not trolling, honest. How do you kiss with your nose or is it a figure of speech?

Vietnamese people like to sniff the face instead of good ole fashion tonsil hockey.

I think I need to go and see a fortune teller when I get to Vietnam? I was born in the year of the monkey. :unsure

Just some closures if anyone cares. My wedding date is now officially February 23rd. Can't be change since my parents have booked their plane tickets already.

Though I did learn more about this Vietnamese customs. I can't have a say in how my wedding is planned lol. My parents are going to speak to her parents about arrangements. I haven't seen my parents in 3 years btw. Basically I show up, pay and that's it. Just felt weird being independent than have all these people you haven't met for a long while make all the decisions on your biggest day. Oh well if that's how it is that's how it is. At least I get to take the bride home.

You also have to decide who receives the money given at the wedding, make it clear as to who  receives what or it could all disappear.

snake77

Hey, did you ask your gf if she checked that date for its lunar date?

I saw that is the 24th of the first month (tiger) (year:horse, element:wood, planet: mars, color: red, yin/yang: yang)....

I thought they would not want to use a date with a 4 in there....

All the viets and chinese I know would never!

khanh44

shhhh there's already been about 10 numbers that we can't do the wedding on at this rate we'll get to 31 numbers.

Ah the money issue is not a problem. I'll receive it all. Her parents may be dirt poor but they never asked for anything. I'm just going to take a CEO stance on this marriage arrangement and let them do the leg work. I'll veto anything I don't like and get final say. I'll be in Vietnam a month before the wedding so anything at this point is just hypothetical.

Excited! Got my website blog up and running to document all the ups and downs I will be experiencing in Vietnam, my financials half-way organized, some stuff to sell off/get rid off and in 4 months I should be an expat!

I thought 4 was chinese for bad luck. Ironically my nick has double 4 because of this omen.

Snake77 and Khanh44,

Dang!  You guys have this number thing down packed, hey?

Alright Snake, what's the 77 for?

MarkinNam

actually , the word which means 4 in chineese sounds very similar to the word for death, 8 is the lucky # hey Khanh hope you see by the response that we are interested

khanh44

I'll have all my experience in Vietnam documented in my blog. Can't post the blog yet though until I reach at least 10 post and it's approved by Expat.com.
