Adoption

Post new topic

Dear EB members

I am married to British expat and currently living in Indonesia.  My spouse plans to adopt my son before we return to UK next year.  Has anybody know or ever experienced the process of adopting Indonesian child by marriage.  How long does the process take?

Although we have been in contact with local lawyer, any input or views from you will be highly appreciated.

Cheers
Itha

I think when you are legally married to each other, your son becomes his foster son. Your husband is now the legal stepfather of your son from previous marriage. So why consider an adoption?

Hi Vikings,

Thanks for your thought.  If you think now my spouse is legal stepfather to my son, what the legality based on?

Vikings

Your marriage to him is enough. You are legally married to him, aren't you?

i6uest

Yes, thanks for your thoughts anyway.

Vikings

Good luck.

....remain waiting for other views and thoughts :)

I read someplace that in case of adoption in Indonesia, the adopting party(ies) must be the same religion as the child to be adopted.

Of this not the case, then I recommend you performing this adoption outside Indonesia and when returning to Indonesia your child will be an official member of your family.
