Northern England - Where are the affluent areas?

Post new topic

Lifeiinart

Hi there,

I'm looking for advice from some people who know the North of England very well.  I'm from Wales and live in Kent so my knowledge of the North is very limited.

We have just taken on a new business in the North.  We have to travel from one shopping centre to another setting up our stand.  We aren't sure where the affluent areas are.  Alot of the centre’s we have visited aren't quite what we are looking for.

So if you know the North well and can point us in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Angie

Hi Eric,

We have taken on a franchise selling personalised name frames.  We can work anywhere in the North of England.  But as I'm from Wales and my partners from Kent we have no idea where to start!!

We have so far worked in Birkenhead, which was terrible.  And now we are in Bolton, which is slightly better.  We need to find the areas that are fairly affluent.  We were thinking of heading to the North East next as the West hasn't been that great so far.

Are there any areas that you know of that are wealthy or very poor that we should try to avoid?  We dont mean to sound snobby it's just the better the area the beter we'll do. Also as our product is not an essential purchase we need to find the people that have spare cash, which is not easy at the moment!

I hope you can shed some light on our situation.

Thanks, Angie

Hi

Not a good start then!! it can only get better and if it was easy everyone would be doing it, so : -

Newcastle is good, try Elden Square Shoping Centre, very busy, the surounding areas are good, wealthy market towns are, Corbridge, small but you might do well on a market day, Hexham larger market town but busy, Morpeth, new upmarket shopping centre just opened there.

Teesside is a poor area, avoid Middlesbrough at all costs, Yarm on the outskirts is good, further South is Stokesley, also wealthy.

Moving down country, York is busy and you will do ok there, surounding areas of wealth are Helmsley (not sure where you could pitch, perhaps a hotel?)Malton (horse training country)

Leeds is a wealthy city and you should be spoilt for choice, but like all big towns it has it's bad areas keep to city centre.

Hope this helps and good luck

Eric
