I just realized that I will be in Belize for Belize Independence Day! I was wondering how Belize celebrates this important day? Does it vary by region? Will businesses like shops and restaurants be closed on this day?

Most towns will have flag raising ceremonies, fireworks, parades etc. Carnival like atmosphere.

Be aware that the downside is that most tourist type businesses will be closed for 1-2 weeks. It's a real chance to see Belizeans enjoying themselves, but many restaurants, tours, real estate offices will be closed. You'l have to fight for a taxi or space on the busses. This is Belize's time to take a vacation.
