Student Visa to Business Visa

Hi currently in Mauritius under a Student Visa, am finally done with school and working for a company willing to process my work permit, however the dilemma is from what i hear i would have to leave the country and come back, is it possible i can apply for a work permit (Business Visa) without leaving the country or it's inevitable thanks alot. awaiting your response
