I was under the impression you could take your dogs to Manoel Island and let them of their leash so they could run free. No idea where i read it though. Tried to find some info today but couldnt. Does anybody know if you have to have them on leash or not in Manoel island?
Thanks

ricky

Hi lobo,

Manoel Island is private property and is under development. You are not allowed to enter anyway unless there is an event at Fort Manoel.

Or are you talking about the Marina area?

Don't know were you read that.

If you take your dog into the countryside beware that the hunting season is open. Maltese hunters shoot at everything that moves from dawn until 7 pm in the evening.

Cheers

Hi Lobo,

You read it here :) so did I :D and I remember it as we moved closer to Manoel Island and this 'info' was at the back of my mind. Sorry don't know if any of it is true or not.

Hi Justina,

the Fort Manoel and surrounding areas belong to the Midi group and in exchange for the refurbishment of the fort there will be development of  luxury villas/apartments. This part is blocked by a gate with a guard but the development itself is on hold.

Midi did suggest giving the property back to the government in exchange for the money they spent on rebuilding the fort (30 Mill.) but the government said no.

As part of this discussion it was suggested to turn the whole island into a recreational area but that won't happen any time soon.

When you access the island across the bridge (near Duck's village) you can take the road on the right and walk past the yachts until the end of the road but not further. There is also a gate and guard at the beginning. I'm not sure if you can let dogs run there as it is a private marina.

On the left of Manoel island is the Manoel Island shipyard. It is not accessable.

So that really doesn't leave much room to roam around the island.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

probably I was one of those who mentioned that we take our dog for walk on Manoel Island. We use the marina road (when you enter over the bridge it is on the right hand side, the entrance is next to the restaurant). It is not completely traffic free as boat owners, taxis, repairmen, etc. can enter, but not very busy and everyone walking their dogs without leash. Their is a gate for cars, but you can pass on foot.

cool. doggies are coming soon. we should all arrange a dog play day :)

ricky

Hi Lobo,

if you walk past the restaurant on the right side there is a gravel playing field. Part is used for Kids Island at the moment. That should be fine for letting dogs run with no cars.

Further up a road leads to the right. Only the occasional car drives there as it is a dead end road.

Cheers

thanks ricky. let the dogs come and we ll sort it out. its us humans that make things difficult anyway. animals adapt a lot faster :)
