Getting a Work Visa In Poland?

Hello,
I am a US citizen here in Gdansk trying to teach English. I have gotten a good job offer, but the people are British and do not know how to do the paperwork for a visa for me. How can I get this done if they do not want to do the work?

Should I hire a lawyer?
I heard if you are in a Polish Language course you can get a visa, but can't find if that's true?
Also I see you need 50,000PLN to start a business as a foreigner, am I misunderstanding that? Because I could start a business possibly, if that is false. Thank you all!

I dont know about Visa, I am Swedish and dont need one. But why would you need 50K pln ? There are different types of business here, just as in any country.
And, yes...In Poland, use a laywer....The Polish system is based on having to have...Laywers for even sometime simple things..
