Retiring to Corozal

Post new topic

B52NAV

Greetings from Texas!  We are retired military and plan to retire to the Corozal area under the QRP program.  Can you please tell us if you have to pay taxes on the vehicles you bring with you?  I've read conflicting info on that. We are wanting to live in an area with plenty of other expats and thought Corozal would be a good fit.  We will be bringing our pets, but are still unsure about our two horses.  Does anyone have any advice for us on that issue?  Look forward to your responses and THANKS!

Hi
The way I understand the QRP program you can bring in a vehicle and don,t have to pay tax/duty.
But you cannot sell it.
Pets
I believe you can bring them. BAHA  is in charge of issuing permit
Hope this help a little

The vehicle cannot be older than 3 years. Yes you can bring pets too. I know nothing about the horses though. I suspect they can be brought, but not under the QRP program. That is only a guess though.

My understanding is that it takes between 4 to 6 weeks to go through the process of the QRP. I am finding out, I submitted my paperwork on the 30 August.

Best to get your information from the government website though. That way you get the information from them, not people that are not invested in your success, no matter how good intentioned we are.

BZ Government Website for importation of animals - info for dogs and horses can be found there.
I found them to be easy to deal with and helpful.

Thank you very much!
