Hello

Can anyone please shed light on this...My wife (British Citizen) has a class H business permit. She wants to continue to run her business and work at the same time. I understand she would need a class A permit for office work. Would she be able allowed to hold both permits?

Also does anyone know the process and cost of renewing a business permit?

David

Hi Webdever,

I suggest you to read the Requirements for Foreigners to Live and Work in Kenya Guide, you might find some useful information. :)

Thank you,

David.

Hi Webdever,

Unfortunately, the information on this blog is a little outdated.
If your wife has a job under FORMAL employment, she is required to apply for the Class D permit (formerly Class A). She cannot hold formal employment under a Class G (formerly Class H) permit. She would, therefore, have to apply a fresh for the Class D permit. If she does not have "formal" employment, maybe it's best for her to stick with the Class G permit (business permit) and simply renew it, but she needs to be careful as immigration officials have stepped up measures to arrest those working/doing business illegally or on wrong permits.

Also, one is not allowed to hold 2 different types of permits. Immigration already has her file details lodged in their systems so it will not be possible.

As far as costs for renewal of the Class G (business) permit, it will cost KES 200,000 for 2 years (KES 100,000 for 1 year). A non-refundable processing fee of KES 10,000 and a bond of KES 100,000 to be made with your bank is also required. They will also need bank statements of the business account to prove that the business is not bankrupt or unable to run for another 1 or 2 years (depending on how many years you decide to renew your permit).

Inbox me your email address and I will send you the necessary forms plus other required documents for this permit.
