Customs/Moving Costs

Post new topic

Hello,

I'm a US citizen living in Ireland for the past 5 years. My husband and I are moving back to America this summer and I'm trying to weigh my options for moving costs. We don't have a lot to move and shipping seems to be expensive. I'm half thinking of trying to fit everything as excess baggage with the airline. To get an accurate cost comparison perspective, I'm trying to figure out customs fees.

All of our belongings are for our personal use - not newly bought abroad as on a vacation or such, nor are any of them commercial. Many of them, in fact were purchased in the US and we're just bringing them back over with us when we move. Does anyone know if these things are subject to customs allowances?

I'm trying to do my homework to avoid any costly surprises!

Thanks for any help!
