Hi everyone!

Just want to express my thoughts. Been job hunting for awhile now but still not lucky to find one. I think it's very difficult to find a part time job most specially in my case that I can only converse in English.
A holder's degree and with 18 year working experience in the field of Accounting and Finance.

Can anyone share if they experience the same? like having difficulty in finding a job most specially if one is foreigner?

Thanks!

Toon

Its a common problem - but with your experience in Finance and Accounting it should help - but as most business here is usually  - but not always - conducted in Maltese - thats the bit you may need to address.... maybe refine the job search criteria too - keep on trucking - you will get something in the end dont give up - ITS NOT EASY BUT GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Thank you...I won't give up! ;). Btw, Tuesday next week will be my first day of class for the Maltese language(preliminary). Good luck to me! :))))).

il-lallu... :). Yes you are right, the language is very difficult but I will learn in time. And I hope I may land a job after learning the local dialect.

Thank you for your time and have a great day!.

Hi CebLuch,

I'm glad to hear that you finally made it to Malta and all the best for your marriage -))

Can you give some info on the process of entering the Schengen area in your case and the documents you needed ? It would help to answer future similar posts. Thanks.

As to your job question you should just keep on trying with an emphasis on foreign companies that don't put so much importance on the Maltese language ( until you have learned it )Many job seekers encounter the same problem in thinking that you can get along with English only in Malta. In the Maltese society and business world you can forget English! The language is Maltese.

Cheers

For an accounting and finance job in a Maltese company you need to know Maltese language. Even if it's not really necessary for daily business, this is commonly used as knock-out criterion to protect the locals :(
Even if you work for a foreign company they will request Maltes language to correspond with the local authorities.

You also need to have a document from MQRIC recognizing your education/degree ... Due to EU Directives 2006/36/EC resp. 2006/123/EC this recognition is not mandatory within EU member states to be permitted access to a regulated profession - but, hey, you're in Malta :D

Unless you have skills which no one else here can provide - Carefully prepare your CV to match the vacancy note, and get in contact with the HR manager of the company 'personally' on telephone. Sounds little bit backwarded nowadays, but that works.

... and don't expect much more than 800,- per month for an ordinary 40hrs accountant job.
