Warning for dog owners.

I just had a terrible experience with the flea and tick medicine Advantix spot-on. It nearly killed my dog. Just wanted to pass it on. I don't want anyone's dog to go through what my dog just did. I'm lucky she survived!!!

what happened? i hope your dog is ok now

I usually use Advantage but the pet store ran out of it, so I got Advantix instead. It was almost as if she was hallucinating. She got freaked out at everything that came near her. It seemed like lying on the floor was painful for her because every time she did so, she'd jump back up as if she was being shocked. Her breathing was irregular and she was walking really odd. She was also rubbing her head against everything. I washed her off as soon as I realized it was the cause. She's better now but now she's not 100% yet. I asked my FB friends if anyone has had a similar reaction and two of them said they did. I'm sure some people have used this product with no problems...maybe my dog had an allergic reaction to it...whatever happened...I just wanted to warn people of the possible side effects. It was really scary.

Having had a look around I would guess that for every satisfied customer there is one who would say their pet had a bad reaction.
It seems to depend upon the particular animal's reaction to the pesticides rather than the product itself but it also depends upon dosage.
One common complaint though is that possible side effects are not included in the instructions and/or description, which should of course be read every time before use. Some usages include that one has to know the animal's weight before use because K9 Advantix II comes in formulas designed for small dogs (up to 10 lbs), medium dogs (11-20 lbs), large dogs (21-55 lbs) and extra large dogs (over 55 lbs).
Also see here: http://k9advantix2sideeffects.com/

It's interesting to note that this treatment contains permethrin, which if one looks here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permethrin
one can see its range of uses and how toxic it is and that pesticide grade permethrin is toxic to cats. Many cats die after being given flea treatments intended for dogs, or by contact with dogs having recently been treated with permethrin.

Always check your dogs weight and under dose if close to a weight limit.

Also, did you know that carob, so common out here is used as a great chocolate substitute for dogs: it has a mild, sweet flavour and the colour of dark chocolate, without any of the harmful stuff for dogs?
