One week is a very short time to find a job - most companies need more than that to view and shortlist received CVs. Only after that do they send interview invitations, and only after an interview can they make a final decision about hiring you or not.
Depending on the company, this can take many weeks to several months.
How many companies did you apply at, and how many interviews did you have so far?

I have been here almost a year and I still do not have a job.  It will take time depending on where you live.

Some people send hundreds of applications before they find a job. Five is definitely not enough!
Maybe you can study German, or improve your English, in the meantime?
Try these sites for sort-term apartments and rooms:

I have personally used the last two and can say they are o.k. (but not great).

my fiancé is German, and has a phd in engineering but some of the places he applied for jobs (that were being advertised- he wasn't just sending his application in randomly)

He finally gave up on the German job market partly because they were so slow. He had some jobs call him back 8 months after he'd sent in the application, then he had 2 interviews spaced several weeks apart, and then they'd finally decide to hire someone else two months after that. I don't understand how people can manage to make life plans around such glacially paced hiring decisions.
