What are the top hiring sectors?

Hey Julien.

The reason why you (and many others) aren't getting any return on questions about jobs (or sectors) here in Gothenburg is because there aren't really many that are promising. If you can't speak Swedish, you'd be lucky to find anything at all, unless you buy a business yourself.

As far as "promising" goes, if you're some kind of a developer you could always try with Ericsson, and then of course there is always Volvo which offers a variety of positions to people who have relevant work experience and training.

From my personal experience, the education sector is always looking for teachers, but it is problematic because they only hire teachers on 3-6 month "term" positions a lot of the time. Therefore the children get inconsistent schooling, and the teaching career is not consistent either. Where I come from (in Canada) it is quite common for teachers to stay at the same school for their whole career.

In order to create new jobs in Sweden, I'd personally recommend something that can accommodate foreigners and their children. Day-cares, schools, extra-curricular programs that have several language speaking assistants are all good ideas.

Most foreigners (and even well-educated Swedes) often get stuck at Burger King or in a hotel making the beds though. I have finished SFI and SAS and have more experience than most Swedes have in their pinky finger (no offense to them, I've been working since I was 14 and also completed a university degree) and still haven't found a stable job in Sweden.

If you take a look through the posts here on this forum relating to jobs, you'll unfortunately find responses that are far more jaded than mine. It's just the honest truth that nobody wants to say out loud. I've thought about creating jobs too. The fact of the matter is that it's difficult, and nobody wants to be a business owner here either because most small business owners can hardly afford to pay themselves after all is said and done with the taxes.
