Hello ELYJOHNNY,

If you have married a Brazilian national in any foreign country it is necessary to take the ORIGINAL Marriage Certificate, your identification documents and those of your spouse to the Consulado-Geral do Brasil in that jurisdiction to be registered. There may be more than one in any given country so you need to find out which one serves the city where you reside. The Consulado will issue a Certidão de Casamento from the Consular Cartório which is the valid document for Brazil.

Once you have that document you then have two options, you can apply for your VIPER Permanent Visa in you home country where the processing time is much quicker, 3 to 6 months on average; however the DISADVANTAGE is that you can't enter until you receive the visa and you must enter Brazil within 90 days of the visa being issued.

The second option is to come to Brazil on a VITUR Tourist Visa and then apply for the VIPER here in Brazil. The processing time is considerably longer, up to 2 years or more. The ADVANTAGE of this option is that once you apply you are permitted to remain in Brazil and to obtain a Carteira de Trabalho (work permit) which allows you to legally work in this country.

So, the choice is up to you. At any rate the way of applying for the VIPER and documents required are the same in either case. The only difference is if you apply there you do so through the Consulado, here you apply through the Policia Federal.

See the second half of the following post for the documents required for the VIPER Permanent Visa application.
