This is Pam and Ralph, and we are moving to Ecuador. We have visited the Las Olas site twice and are planning to move there next summer when our home is built. Every one we have met down there has been very helpful. We have rented a house in Bahia de Caraquez and look forward to this next stage of our journey of life. We went to the Ecuador Consulate yesterday and got our 180 day tourist visa. It took a lot longer than we thought it would, about 4 hours, but mission accomplished. We have one last task before applying for our Pensioner Visa, and we will get that done, with the help of the attorney from Las Olas in December when we arrive in Manta. It feels good to have this hurdle done. The only unexpected item the Consulate wanted was proof of a plane ticket to Ecuador. We emailed that to them this morning. And yes, we needed birth certificates.

This is enough for a first blog. Will be happy to answer any questions about our experiences in getting ready to move to Ecuador, that you may have.

I'm in the same process you are. It looks like you have things well-planned and are taking care of things far in advance (already having your tourist visa). Best of luck -- I hope things work out well for you.

Good to hear that you got a rental in Bahia. Best of luck and hope things work out with getting your house built by April. There is another thread called Las Olas which also has a lot of info. Didn't know they had their own attorney.

Have been been following this blog for eight months and visa info/requirements/experiences/advice are completely inconsisten

Hi, glad you've been following the blog. We are not long term users. I am sorry if I said the house would be done by April. They cannot even start building until after the rain, so am guessing it will start in the spring and be ready to move into, late summer early fall. We will not have the first house built, so will not be done first. And yes, Las Olas now has the sales office up and running, and have an architect and attorney to help us get through the process. We are really pleased.
