Post new topic

Hi All,

I am from The Bahamas, and am interested in moving to Canada. I'm thinking of British Columbia or Alberta. Do you think I should go there first and try to find a job and then apply for work permit?

Thank you.

Maximilien

Hi meanyou,

I have created a new thread as from your post on the Canada Forum for better visibility and interaction

Thank you

Hello meanyou,

Yes, by all means if you have the opportunity and money to visit Canada it is always easier to find a job in person than trying to do so from a distance. It will certainly make the interview process a lot easier too.

I'd really concentrate on Alberta if I were you. British Columbia is beautiful, but you'll stand a much better chance of finding employment in Alberta since it is one of the fastest growing areas of Canada in economic terms and there are lots of jobs available right across the board.

You should know that for decades now Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have been the top three destinations for newcomers to Canada and those cities are now at saturation levels, making it almost impossible to find work since you're competing for every job vacancy not only with all the other newcomers but also with all the unemployed local residents.

If you have any special skills or technical training you can try now. Visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website and fill out the information online see if you already qualify for a visa.

For a work permit you need to do go onto the Canadian government immigration website and see if you qualify for a visa.
