Legalization of education certificate in India

coolalphaman

Hi everyone,

This post can be more or less continuation of my previous post. However, as I found it as a more focussed issue, I thought to start a new topic.

Coming to the issue, I have studied till my Bachelors education in India and finished Masters & PhD from Irish universities. For legalizing Masters & PhD certificates, I had sent my documents by post to Brazilian consulate in Dublin and legalized both of them. That was really straight forward process.

Now I want to legalize my Bachelors degree certificate from Brazilian consulate in Mumbai as I studied it in India. Unfortunately, the Brazilian consulate in India do not accept the documents by post. That is a really big problem for me as I'm presently living in Ireland. Through my parents in India, I can arrange for the consulate fee in Indian rupees but submitting all the documents in person is really hard for me.

After searching in internet, I found that there are few agents such as http://www.legalization.in/ who will consider the certificates by post and get legalized & send them back. If I legalize the certificates through them, will it be valid in Brazil?

Legalization & Apostille are same as mentioned on the website?

How reliable these agents are?

If someone from India got legalized their educational certificates, please guide me how they had done it. I mean using Brazilian consulate or using some agent.

Thanks for your time and if you have any information, please share it.

I would be very wary of using any kind of "agent" in India, the loss or theft of the original diplomas would be disasterous and they are something that would attract a high price on the black market.

I'd suggest that you phone the Consulado-Geral do Brasil em Mumbai and speak to somebody there personally. Explain your situation, that you're presently living in Ireland and that returning to India simply to present the documents for legalization is simply not an option. While they may not accept documents sent by ordinary mail for legalization, perhaps they do accept documents delivered either by private courier companies such as FedEx, DHL or UPS for example. They also might accept documents for legalization if presented by a member of your family. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask for clarification.

Regarding these agents or whatever you intend to use claim that THEY can legalize the documents they are making false claims only the Consulate can legalize them; if they say that they are having them legalized by the Consulate, acting only as your intermediary, then they would be legal in Brazil. I still wouldn't trust them, much better you find some safer alternative.

Hi William,

Thanks for the response. Today I had a chance to speak to Consulate in Mumbai regarding this. They made it clear that at any cast they will not consider the documents by post which was very disappointing to hear. They had mentioned that I can send someone from my family or friends to Mumbai and then submit the documents. But the problem is from my place in India to Mumbai is around 30 hours of journey and they need to stay in Mumbai for 5 working days for its processing and after that they need to collect the documents & come back. So it is not a very easy task.

In India, legalizing a document is also not so simple. It is 3 step process. First we need to notarize, next get attested by Indian ministry of External affairs and then finally needs to be submitted in consulate general for legalization.

Also, consulate general mentioned that it can be performed with the help of some Agents it seems. So I guess I'm left only with this option and need to find someone reliable.

Thank you.

James

Don't you have any family members still residing in India? It would certainly be much simpler to mail or courier your diplomas to them and have them submit them to the Consulate.

Hi William,

I do have my parents living in India but much far from Mumbai (around 30 hours of journey in one way). As I said in my previous mail, after finishing those 3 steps, someone needs to submit and wait for 5 working days in Mumbai. And after that they need to collect them. So it is bit hard. Hence I'm looking for different options!

Thanks

James

Well, Brazil really treats both Indian and Pakistani citizens much differently than most other nations.

I always knew that it is 10 times more difficult for them to get any kind of visa, there are many more requirements for even a simple VITUR Tourist Visa than for the citizens of most other countries, but almost every other Consulado-Geral do Brasil in the world accepts documents submitted by mail.

Just another demonstration of "legalized" discrimination practiced by the Brazilian government. Sad to say!

I never once set foot inside the Consulado-Geral do Brasil in Canada, not even to get my visa! There is NO REQUIREMENT for a visa interview in Canada, like there is for citizens of India and Pakistan.

Thats unfortunately true. This is just not only with Brazilian embassy but even for other embassies such as Netherlands, all Indian citizens needs to follow those 3 steps for legalizing the documents.

For handling a population of over 1.2 billion, obviously they need to look for more stringent policies. I might be wrong but I think it is not quite appropriate just to blame Brazilian government all alone for this case!

@coolalphama: I am also in a similar situation. I currently live in the US and I am planning to get married in Brazil. So I need to get my Birth certificate and my single status certificate legalized in India. I am just wondering whether you were able to get your documents legalized? If so can you let me know the name of the agents or their contacts?
How did you go through this process of legalization in the Brazil consulate in India? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.
