Take a look at the following, will give you an idea of rental payments etc

http://www.lexpressproperty.com/en/rent-mauritius

Our electricity averages about Rs 5,000 per month, but you find your swimming pool and air conditioning uses quite a bit of electricity, so thats what bumps it up to the 5,000.

Our water is about Rs400 per month - very low but then we are very careful of water wastage.

Domestic help is extremely cheap I find, it seems the average costs for 20 hours per week is about Rs6,500 per month, some pay less some pay more, all depends on the quality, most of us look after our maids also in other ways - especially if you have a good loyal maid :)

Vegetables especially seasonal ones are very cheap and you can buy direct from the growers at the roadsides, usually with their plot of land used to grow their vegs behind them :)

A lot of people rent or lease their cars, so all costs and services are usually included in this price as I do so no idea on running costs, except that petrol is cheap compared to UK.

I am not sure if the above differs according to where you live on the Island but we live in the West.

Good luck :)
