Hi Everyone,

I just want to ask for your suggestions/advice, my auntie (38 yrs old) is planning to come there in KL to look for a job.
She will b going there as a tourist and will only find a job once she is there. Is that safe? She was working before in a restaurant as a waitress and also working on promo sales.

What are the things she needs to bring for employment and for her stay there.
What are the best way of transportation...what are the DOs and DON'Ts...

I have been in KL before but that is for 3 days stay only...so I cannot help my auntie on her questions.

I will really appreciate your responses.

Hi wq - it does not seem to be a very sound plan. I am not sure what nationality your aunty has but she will encounter problems to get a job for the following reasons. It does not seem as if she has the type of professional qualifications and experience that will get her a job in Malaysia. Sales promotion is unlikely to be a field in which she will find work (although there are literally hundreds of jobs advertised on Mudah). That is because she does not speak local languages and the companies are too small to hire foreigners (also the contracts are short-term). The pay for a sales promo job can be about RM5 per hour and the most likely wage she could earn in the sectors you mention is RM1200-1500 per month. But those sectors are where the foreign workers are employed - they must come from •Indonesia •Cambodia •Nepal •Myanmar •Laos •Vietnam •Philippines (male only) •Pakistan •Sri Lanka •Thailand •Turkmenistan •Uzbekistan or •Kazakhstan.

There is a minimum monthly salary required by all other nationalities to get a work permit (employment pass) and that is RM5k. The average salary for Malaysians is still only about RM3k so you can see the jobs have to be quite senior. The problem is that people do not research about Malaysia and understand how it functions and the rules. It is not like the EU and is still a developing nation in a developing region.

Please make sure your Aunty knows what to expect from Malaysian immigration and employment laws before she sets out. It is not particularly easy to live cheaply in Malaysia, if you are "white" - everyone will think you have lots of money.
