Hey

I have an interview at a brainworks school in yangon...I am wanting to know about life in yangon?

I am 25 years old, so ideally ..is there young people to socialise with? is there much of an expat community? What are the bad and good things about living there?
Thanks :)

Well, For sure Yangon is a nice place, with people having brains off course, I am sure you will find it even more better.

You can hangout in few places like art gallery, cinema, shopping mall and other restaurants where expats hang-out.

Thanks,
Kamran

Expats community is growing rapidly right now compare last 3-4 years ago. Loads of young people to socialise with (and old people too)    :joking:

This is a company that hire people with very little qualification. Most of their "teachers" are back packers with online IELTS certificate (anybody can get it in a few months, anywhere in the world).
The working condition is terrible. if i were you i would find a second option. The salary is a joke- (i think its less than 2000 USD a month with NO MEDICAL, NO R/T FLIGHT, NO HOLIDAY!!

Basically what these schools are doing is: hiring a white face like ROK in the 90s. If you have very little qualification and just want to be in Burma just because, then take. If not, I strongly advise you not stay away from these "Schools".

I have just accepted a job at Brainworks and I am excited! I get to Burma in June and I can't wait. The above poster seems to not have had a good experience but I am getting a good salary, very helpful HR man and lots of support.

Maybe the above poster is right about many teachers in Burma at the moment but where you have developing economies you will also find people drawn to the opportunities however I not a backpacker with an online TEFL but a degree educated professional with a  CELTA from International House in London as well as a wealth of experience working in primary schools in London.

Maybe see you on the other side!
