Hi,

Living in a foreign country implies to discover its culture, to learn and master the cultural codes.

How did you deal with that? Share with us your culture shock stories where you experienced a funny or awkward moment in Myanmar.

What is your advice regarding the don’ts and what would you recommend to avoid any mistake?

Thank you in advance for sharing your stories,

Christine

Yes of course, each country has its own culture codes and traditions.

I saw it the first time in Laos, but I experienced it here as well that whenever local persons passed my table in the hotel they bow their heads. They do it for respect, I know, but I feel very uncomfortable with it. If people want to show me their respect, a simple "hello" would be enough.

But - it is their culture here - so I respect it. In the office I work I kindly asked them not to do that and they answered "we have to".

Well . . . so go ahead :-)

Have a nice week

Even I experience bowing if two ppl r talking on the way n 3rd stranger has to pass from middle he/she will bow down while speeding up from between or he will take longer route n avoid intersect.
