Just wondering... to bring or to buy....

Post new topic

Rigger64

I'm very attached to my Apple iMac and would prefer to bring it with me to Jeddah.  With that said, I've ready many horror stories about damaged or stolen electronics when dealing with airlines and wonder if I should just bite the bullet and buy a new Mac once I arrive.  I open to your suggestions and/or thoughts.

I know there are several iZone shops in Jeddah and the cost of iMac's (27") are only about $200 USD more than in the States.  If I were to buy online and have it shipped I might save a little but there's always the chance of damage in shipment.  Which I have to consider with every option EXCEPT buying a new computer in KSA.

If anyone knows, are there any limitations, restrictions or limitations on the systems available in the Kingdom vs those available in the US?  Said another way, will an iMac bought in Jeddah be different (other than maybe having a Arabic keyboard available) than one I can by in Anywhere, USA?

Thanks for your input.

Uh, what were you planning to do?  Pack your iMac in your checked baggage?  Seriously, just put it in a sturdy laptop bag and bring it onto the plane with you as carry on.  That's what most of us do.

That would be awesome except the iMac 27" is a desk top computer.  The box is almost as large as a travel bag.

Lol at put it in laptop bag... He said iMac.

My advice, just buy one here.  Too much risk of damage while traveling.  As for differences between systems available here and in the US, I do not know, but, I can't think why there would be.

Use a shirking gun and shirk the apple imac. Then it would look like a toy and no one will steal it. Or u can even put it in ur inner hidden pockets.
Hope u have both of these.

Syed, I like the way you're thinking.   So...while I'm tracking down the shrink gun and the garment with the hidden pockets maybe I'll run across a winning lottery ticket.     I'll be happy to share the bounty!

Speaking of inner hidden pockets...  I wonder if those would get me past Saudi customs with a nice bottle of wine and a full leg of ham?  Aw, I can only dream, right?

And that is how I will probably eventually decide.   Hopefully my T-bite hard drive will clear customs.  There's nothing on it that shouldn't be there...

Try it, and then post here from your compound/dungeon in Saudi, whichever one you end up in  :idontagree:

Yes dream
Dreaming is very important.
If u dream then u make effort to achive ur dream
Neccesity leads to invention and innovation
Maybe now some one (if not you) would invent a shirking gun.
Just incase u r going for it please make a invisible robe also.
it will be quite handy at times.

Sadly, my friends, I've been on the opposite side of the bars before (once a very long time ago) and have heard enough things about ME jails and/or prisons that I believe dreaming will suffice.  Bahrain will provide the wine and my ham sandwich can wait until the holidays! :joking:
