Employment for the Spouse of the holder of a occupational permit

Good Day All,

Me and my Husband are South African citizens and have the opportunity to relocate to Mauritius for +/- 3 years. His company has a office located in Mauritius.

In regards to the permits, obviosly my husband will apply for a occupational permit and myself for a residential permit. We are both professionals in RSA. Am I aloud to work in Mauritius if I do find a job there? (as a professional). Not much clarity iro employment for the spouse of the holder of a occupational permit. Can the residency permit change to a occupational permit?

When we leave SA and enter MU, do we enter with VISA'S (for the interim period until our permits has been applied for and issued) and if so what tipe of VISA's business or tourist/ holiday etc.

How strict are MU on criminal records when considering your application for the abovementioned permits? Does it depend on the tipe of conviction?

Please Advise
Regards

Nadeem

The main applicant should come on a business visa and dependents can get in with a tourist visa

You will have to produce documents if you have been 'convicted and sentenced'. This might jeopardise your application. For professional permits they don't ask for criminal records but a declaration whether you have been convicted. If yes, you will need to produce documents and explain

I think it's also important to know that the document of criminal record should not be older than 3 month. In case you have any special qualifications the application for an expat job might be easier. The company here in Mauritius would have to place a quite high amount for your work permit, which they won't do in case the job could be done by a mauritian person.
