Somebody! Anybody! Save my violin! :'(

When I was tuning my violin today, my G string snapped, and the peg kept moving after it was completely stuck. After two hours of trial and error, my G and E strings were finally tuned, but a few seconds later, BAM! they were out of tune again. No idea what's going on. I want to hurt cute little bunnies I swear. Oh, and my D string sounds like the A string whereas the A string sounds like the D string. I've been trying for four hours to tune the darn thing until one of the strings just snapped. My neck and arms are really sore and I need help. I called Al-Duwaliya to see if they can fix it and they said no. Are there any violin tutors or at least anyone who knows how to tune violins here? I know I sound like a hormonal teenager, but HELP!

And sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

I believe you can find strings in music instrument stores, i saw one store in the new electronics market in batha i dont remember its name and also there are a few dealer stores in Sulaiman Centre (Lulu) in Batha.

I recommend checking out both, if not there the dealers can at least point you to the right direction..

Try to find out some expert instructor  who can fix the violin string. Otherwise visit the nearby Music Shop

There is a shop of Adawliah Store in Shola Mall in Olaya Street. They sell violin strings there. I bought a pair before. And for help about tuning just use some powder( face powder:)) on tuning pegs to stay in tune. If does not work just use emery paper first on tuning pegs (but beware!! just a little. to make pegs hold the powder). After that use powder. I think that will work. ;)

Hey, thanks for the tips! I'll give them a whirl. I already have strings, but being the bumbling ninny that I am, I'd rather have someone else change them on my violin.

Your welcome.Good luck with finding someone;)

Hi...
How much was your violin for? They are usually pretty expensive and if you bought the cheaper alternative the peg will just do that. ... Good luck

Unfortunately, you're right. Mine is the Stentor Student I Violin and it cost SR 500. It's pretty cheap and has a "scratchy" sound, but it's not so bad. It can still sound beautiful. When I purchased it from Al Duwaliya, it was the only one they had. If I could go back in time, I would have bought the Stentor Student II Violin online.

You will find useful info here answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120126132348AAIfPKz

I think it's better to order one from online or buy one when you travel, but do you homework and research research research... Of course this is only of you really really really want to learn... What's with the repetitions?!?! Enjoy

We were told to always ensure that there is a humidifier in the violin case.  As the climate here is very dry, it is easy for the wood to dry out, and the pegs shrink a bit, making it very difficult to tune.  I am not sure where you would get a humidifier here, but they are very inexpensive (about $5 US).

I'm a violin tutor, two things you have to do , stick the strings' pegs with rosin and push them firmly to be fixed constantly. The other imp. thing is that you have to tighten the strings making them nearly parallel and in line with the axis of the finger board .
