Violent crime in Fiji is low. Petty theft is problematic as in any poor country. Much of it depends where you live, as criminals don't like a long commute to work. In Suva, there are good neighborhoods and bad. Most homes have burglar bars in the cities and larger towns, while doors can go unlocked in most rural areas.
Also, if Fiji does not work out. Google Places to retire for under $500.00 per month. There is a list of about 100 countries (I can't remember but I believe Fiji is on the list. Good luck to you and your wife. Barbara
Thanks Barb. My wife is scared Fiji is too far from her family. We have been looking at Belize and Panama also. I've heard you can live ok on $1600 a month there also. I vote for Fiji !!!!!!!
