Extending the tourist visa

Post new topic

Set37

Greetings

I came back into BR from the US on a tourist visa in December and my 90 days comes up next month. Upon arriving in Rio I was escorted to the bank to pay the fine from a previous overstay.  After a few moments of bank card not working I paid the fine and was escorted back into an office where they stamped my passport, allowed me to enter.  I am now realizing that during this process I was not given back  entry card and I did not think about it at the time.

I want to extend for another 90 days.  Will this be a major problem not having the entry card??

Thanks!!

James

While you're supposed to keep the Entry Card, mistakes do happen and I'm sure that your explanation will keep you from any problems. There are obviously other means of confirming your entry date, the passport stamp is really what's important to the Policia Federal. You need only confirm your count to make sure you're entitled to the visa extension. 180 days in a "rolling" 365 day period, so just count ALL the days (including arrival and departure dates as full days) that you've been in Brazil in the year before your date of applying for the extension and you'll see how many days of entitlement you have for the extension.

My first visit I forgot to turn in my entry card when leaving, no problems. The next 2 times they never took the top part just stamped it and gave it back, upon leaving i turned in both copies, nothing said. William is correct I think as long as yor passport has the stamp you are ok.

I have a student visa. The validity date is not written on it. But the duration of stay, as written on it, is 3 months. After the arrival, I went to the federal police office. They stamped my passport and gave me a RNE number. they also told me that if u want to extend your visa then come again before one month of expiration. So i went to ploce office again. They  just checked my passport and RNE number. The validity date of my RNE number is 8 Jan 2015. They told me that you have to come in September. They did not stamped my passport again. I did not submitted any fee for extention. SO will it be a mistake of police? My duration of stay is 3 months but my RNE is valid till 8th January 2015. So What does it mean? Have i no need to extend my visa? plz explain!!!!!!!! I want to remain here in Brazil for more than one year. Thanks!!!!

James

Hi sakraan.

See your other posting for the answer to your question.

Can someone shoot me the link for the tourist visa extension paperwork to bring to the bank for payment?

James

The link to the Federal Police website to fill out the GRU is:

https://servicos.dpf.gov.br/gru/gru?nac=1&rec=2

In the field for Código da Receita STN  click on the magnifying glass icon and you need to choose
