Resident or Non-resident in the E-filing for MRA

magnuskronander

Hi,

I have  question about the e-filing of the income tax for the year 2013 which should be submitted before April 1st. I had an occupation permit and was working for a Mauritian company in Mauritius from 1st October 2012 until 31st of November 2013.

Should I choose that I was a resident or not in the e-filing? If I choose resident, there is an exempt of Rs 270 000 from the taxable income. If I do not choose resident - there is no exempt.

Does anyone know how to file this? I have been trying to reach the MRA office for answers with no luck.

Regards
Magnus

A foreigner is considered resident if he is living in Mauritius with a residence permit. Tax residency rules also consider the minimum stay period, which is 181 days. Therefore if you have been living on the island for more than 6 months then you are a resident.
