Safety in bangkok

Post new topic

Whats safety like in bangkok? Do people have the fear of being mugged while walking on the road in late evening or while in mall basement parking? Is living in a townhouse safe? I have gone through numbeo.com, which gives a safety quotient, but I'd like to get some views and comments.

I think Bangkok is pretty safe. Just don't walk around waving a wad of cash, you'll be fine. I haven't felt unsafe in the 2.5 years I've lived here.

Pretty safe. Infact people are so friendly. if you get lost for directions, they will really help you out.

Enjoy! It is as safe as KL if not Singapore!

Never done that

Have no fear about get robbed or mugged here in Thailand.

Of cause i don´t get / put my self in "bad" situation, like drunk on the street at late hours, get into fight with people and so on, but for me that "normal" to stay away from things like that, even in my home country.

I live in Townhouse before, feel 100% safe there, as the people live at that street look after each other, help out, because all want a safe neighborhood to live in..

Live in a condo tower now, 100% safe here all so.

Well i never think about it, only when see post like this, or when people back home ask me, because they see something in the news, hear some stories and so on.

I can´t live my life if i have to think about what might or not happened all the time. That only hold me back (I think).

Enjoy live as long as one can, and if my numbers is up one day, i hope i say, i LIVE my life when i have the chance to do so.

Thanks a ton for your comments. I have lived a year and half in kl and have never felt unsafe at any point. However, people do say there is a high level of crime in the city. And I know first hand some people who have been mugged in broad daylight while going to work. Even safety indices show that malaysia is one of the most unsafe places to live in. And rarely do expats here stay in townhouses for fear of being robbed. Thailand is much lower on the list. But wanted to get a "real feel" from the people on this blog. So staying in a townhouse is not an issue in bangkok I guess.
