I am on a pension and have heard how cheap it is to live in Bali. Have never been there so have no idea where to live or how to rent a place and what about medical, do I need insurance.
Seems like there are so many things I need to know

Hi,

I have moved the discussion to the Bali forum

borborigmus

There are hundreds of things you need to know before moving to Bali - not the least of which that it is definitely NOT a super-cheap destination. If you want to live in outlying areas in very basic accommodation - yes, it can be cheaper.

I can only recommend that you come to Bali on a simple Visa on Arrival for 30 days, extend once for another 30 days and spend the 2 months sussing out the place and finding out about the maze you will be required to negotiate before you can successfully get a Retirement KITAS (residency permit) for one year.

Browse through my blog borborigmus.wordpress.com to get a sense of the delights and the absurdities of expat life here, and look through the threads in the various expat forums about Bali for practical advice on the 101 things you will need to know!

Best wishes - it's a great destination, but PLEASE do your homework!
